AusIMM Monographs on NZ economic geology and mining
Monograph 33: The Geology and Coal Resources of New Zealand Coalfields, by Alan Sherwood
AusIMM published Monograph 33 in June 2019. It is a joint publication of AusIMM and New Zealand Petroleum and Minerals. At 363 pages, it provides a comprehensive and essential update on the past 30 years’ work on New Zealand coal resources and geology. This important publication provides a single introductory reference to the geology, resources and general mining prospects of New Zealand coalfields. It is designed as a high-quality and long-lasting reference book for professionals and companies working in the New Zealand coal sector and geologists with an interest in New Zealand coal deposits.
Topics covered include an overview of the geological history of coal deposition in New Zealand from Late Cretaceous to Pliocene, coal regions and individual coalfields; a coal resource inventory for New Zealand; the history of the coal industry, including the role of government; general coal properties and utilisation; the place of coal in the New Zealand economy and mining prospects in the main coalfields.
