Ray has been involved in mining and metallurgical education and training for just on 50 years, across both the university and VET sectors. Since early2019 he has co-ordinated the National Mining Engineering Academics Network, that includes members from all 10 Australian universities delivering mining programs, plus representatives from the Minerals Council of Australia, five State Minerals Councils, AusIMM, BHP and Glencore. Notable achievements include the AusIMM’s Beryl Jacka Award for long-standing high-level service to the Institute, the Commonwealth government’s 2014 Outstanding Teaching and Learning Award, the Australian Coal Operators Contribution to Mining Education Award, the NSW Department of Education and Training Services to Students Medal and Wollongong City Council’s 2016 Senior Citizen of the Year.

Matt Fenzel has 15 years of tailings dewatering and liquid/solid separation experience. Matt Began his career as a Process Engineer for PHOENIX supporting detailed design, laboratory and pilot evaluations as well as commissioning and equipment optimisation for the company’s wide range of dewatering technologies. Matt has contributed and has working knowledge of many coal tailings dewatering operations in Australia from design to operations/maintenance strategies.
