About this event

Annual Meeting
Nominations for 2025 Committee Members are now open and will close on Monday, 9 December 2024.

Being part of the committee is an extremely rewarding experience and is valuable for your professional development and connectivity in the industry.

AusIMM Members that wish to be considered to participate on the Branch Committee in 2025 must complete and email the Branch Committee Nomination Form to melbourne@ausimm.com by Monday, 9 December 2024.

There are currently eleven Committee members. Six Committee members are standing down by rotation and offer themselves for re-election and the Branch seeks to fill these positions on the committee.  An election will be required if we receive more than seven nominations, and this election will occur on the evening of the Annual Evening.

Tech talk:
A case study of a junior ASX Listed exploration company discovering a large-scale gold rich porphyry copper deposit in The South Gobi district of Mongolia, and the subsequent, sometimes arduous journey, to realise value from that discovery for its stakeholders.

Managing expectations through the exploration cycle can be difficult.  Adding the complexity of doing this in an emerging and often mysterious jurisdiction, with a focus on a deposit style that will eventually require the balance sheet and capability of a much bigger company, makes this very challenging.  Attendees will hear insights about the project, Mongolia and lessons learnt along the way.

Colin Moorhead FAusIMM(CP), Past President AusIMM, joined the board as Non-Executive Chair in late 2019 and visited the project just weeks before COVID shut down international travel.  In a very “Steve Bradbury” way he became the Executive Chairman in 2022 and has led the Xanadu team in developing and executing its strategy until now.  Colin brings a combination of technical and corporate insight into the journey to date and will be happy to give a warts and all case study that should be relevant to explorers, developers and mining professionals in general.

Program:
5.00pm – 6.00pm: Arrival, networking drinks and canapes
6.00pm – 6.30pm: Annual Meeting
6.30pm – 7.30pm: Presentation
7.30pm – 8.00pm: Post event networking
