About this event

The AusIMM New Zealand Branch, Christchurch Group, invites you to an insightful technical talk where Dr. Ayrton Hamilton will explore the evolution of Te Kopia geothermal field.

The Te Kopia geothermal field, Taupō Volcanic Zone, is situated along the active Paeroa Fault, which has up to 500 m offset, where a variety of active and fossilised hot spring deposits are observed. This talk will look at the distribution, age, mineralogy and preservation of the hot springs through field mapping, 3D modelling, carbon dating, petrographic and Synchrotron micro-X-ray fluorescence mapping to understand the evolution of this hydrothermal system.
