Tech talk

Mining companies increasingly use non-invasive geophysical methods for hydrogeological and environmental studies, ore-body characterisation, and geotechnical assessments. In this talk, an overview of modern geophysical tools and approaches for the above applications will be presented, with case studies that cover the value mining value chain. Key takeaways include improved safety, environmental stewardship, and risk reduction.

Remke van Dam

Remke van Dam has over 20 years’ experience in academia and industry. He holds a PhD from the Free University in Amsterdam and specialises in near-surface geophysics for environmental, geotechnical, and hydrological applications. Remke has particular expertise with ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic induction (EMI), and Electrical Resistivity Imaging (ERI) for site characterisation and monitoring. He has worked in Brazil, Laos, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Panama, Sudan, Svalbard, UAE, and USA.
