February tech talk: Nuclear Energy Brief - The facts, not myths
Join the AusIMM Sydney Branch for their February tech talk: Nuclear Energy Brief - The facts, not myths!
About this event
Bring together your teams and enjoy networking opportunities, drinks, canapes, and a thought provoking tech talk from Dr. Mark Ho, President of the Australian Nuclear Association.
Nuclear power is experiencing a resurgence as many countries grapple with a zero-carbon energy transition. Such is the importance of nuclear power that no less than 30 countries at COP29 have recognised it to be an integral part of the zero-carbon solution, with many nuclear countries pledging to triple nuclear power by 2050.
But how did nuclear power develop and where is it heading? This talk will look at the numbers, trends and forecasts. This talk will go through the reactor technology options and what that might mean for Australia. The talk will conclude with an overview of micro modular reactors (1 – 5 MWe), an emergent technology suited for remote, off-grid deployment.
