Workshop: Join AusIMM and Geoscience Australia to shape the future of geological mapping

ยท 300 words, 4 minute read

Delegates attending Critical Minerals 2024 are invited to participate in a workshop to help shape the Australian Government’s new 35-year $3.4 billion precompetitive geoscience initiative – Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity (RAP)

About

Geoscience Australia is Australia’s trusted advisor and source of information on geology and geography, delivering precompetitive (government) geoscience to support world-class critical mineral exploration and discovery required for clean energy generation and advanced technologies.

Built on the remarkable successes of the $225 million, 8-year Exploring for the Future program, the RAP initiative, led by Geoscience Australia, aims to accelerate the discovery of critical minerals and other resources necessary for our transition to net zero and inform sustainable management of groundwater. It includes collection of Australia-wide geoscience datasets, national resource assessments – including all of Australia’s critical minerals and strategic materials – and regional investigation. For explorers and resource developers, precompetitive geoscience helps narrow the search area and lower the technical risks of resource exploration, particularly in unexplored and under-explored regions.

From August to October, Geoscience Australia will be running a series of similar consultation workshops across government, industry and academia to gain input and help develop the initial 10-year roadmap for RAP.

If you can't make it to this workshop, come and talk to the Geoscience Australia staff at the AusIMM booth or keep an eye out for upcoming consultation sessions.

What to expect

Geoscience Australia seek insights from resource exploration and mining leaders to shape the first 10 years of the program, including:

  • Key priorities for resource exploration
  • Information and data requirements
  • Regions and locations of focus
  • Stakeholder communication and engagement.
