AusIMM is proud to announce their new alliance with UN Women Australia for the 2025 International Women’s Day (IWD) Event Series, with the joint mission of driving positive change through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the mining and resources sector.

This alliance marks an exciting step in our ongoing commitment to empowering women, fostering inclusivity, and advancing gender equality in the industry. The 2025 IWD Event Series, set to take place across key Australian cities from February 27 to March 14, will bring together global leaders, industry experts, and women in mining to collaborate and share their stories, strategies, and insights on building a more inclusive and sustainable future.

The theme of AusIMM's 2025 event series, "Driving Positive Change Together," reflects the shared responsibility of every individual and organisation in the sector to break down barriers and build a more inclusive environment for all. UN Women, with its profound commitment to advancing gender equality worldwide, brings unparalleled expertise in creating pathways for economic empowerment and financial security for women and girls, especially those from marginalised backgrounds.

UN Women Australia's Role in the Alliance

UN Women’s programs, such as Second Chance Education (SCE), aim to provide a holistic solution to women who have missed out on educational opportunities. Through partnerships and technology, SCE equips women from Indigenous, refugee, displaced, and low-income groups with essential skills in education, vocational training, and entrepreneurial development. The Second Chance initiative has already transformed the lives of over 113,000 women across the globe, helping them gain confidence and create a better future for themselves and their communities.

As part of this collaboration, AusIMM's 2025 IWD Event Series will not only highlight the work of women in the resources sector but also shine a light on the transformative impact of UN Women’s programs.

A Collective Effort for a Shared Vision

The alliance between AusIMM and UN Australia Women is a powerful demonstration of the collective action needed to address the persistent gender disparities in the mining sector. With the backing of prominent industry leaders, including Series Ambassadors from Newmont, BHP, Rio Tinto, Weir, and Whitehaven Coal, this event series promises to bring diverse perspectives, foster collaboration, and elevate DEI practices across the industry.

What to Expect from the 2025 Event Series

From inspiring keynote speakers like Turia Pitt, Sam Bloom, and Rachael Robertson to insightful panels featuring women in mining, AusIMM's 2025 IWD Event Series offers a dynamic platform for attendees to engage with DEI experts, share strategies, and gain actionable insights to implement in their own organisations. Participants will leave the series equipped with real-world solutions and a renewed sense of purpose in creating a safer, more inclusive industry.
