Sophie Gillogly SAusIMM

President, Hunter Student Chapter

Sophie Gillogly is a rising talent in the resources industry, currently pursuing her degree of a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) / Bachelor of Business at the University of Newcastle, while gaining hands-on experience in the field.

Sophie is the President of AusIMM’s Hunter Student Chapter, Secretary of WIMnet NSW and the 2023 AusIMM EEF Scholarship Recipient.

As a young professional navigating the intersection of academia and industry, Sophie embodies the fresh perspective and adaptability crucial in today's evolving mining landscape. Sophie’s interest in mining started during her first year of university, as she aimed to put her learnings into practice and completed a vacation program with Glencore at Bulga Open Cut. At Bulga, Sophie gained insight into various aspects of open cut mining and developed an appreciation for the strong teamwork required in the field, all while prioritising safety and positive leadership. Since then, Sophie has participated in vacation programs at Oaky Creek Underground and the Liddell Coal Closure Project.

Currently Sophie is working as a Student Civil Engineer in consulting with Aurecon to gain a diverse experience as an undergraduate.

Sophie's journey is a testament to the power of combining theoretical knowledge with real-world application. Her presence at this event offers attendees a unique opportunity to gain insights into the aspirations and perspectives of the upcoming generation of mining leaders, bridging the gap between established industry practices and innovative approaches.
