Six industry luminaries to keynote celebrated Iron Ore Conference

Conference co-hosts AusIMM and CSIRO are delighted to confirm six renowned experts in iron ore will present thought-provoking keynote presentations at the celebrated Iron Ore Conference 2023 being held in Perth this September. 

The conference will bring together over 700+ geologists, engineers, metallurgists, academia, mining leaders and executives to address the current challenges of iron ore. The conference theme 'Transitioning to a green future' will be a key focus of presentations across the three-day technical conference.

Christiaan Heyning

Christiaan has extensive experience in decarbonisation in the mining and power sector including system design and planning. As the Director of Decarbonisation at FFI, Christiaan is responsible for ensuring that Fortescue meets their decarbonisation commitments.

Christine Hass is an accomplished scientist with a wealth of experience in environmental management, specifically focused on iron ore ports. Currently serving as the Manager Strategic Airsheds at the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, Christine's primary focus is on airshed management in Port Hedland. Her work is at the interface of environmental sustainability and economic growth.

Darren currently manages a range of Rio Tinto’s scope 3 initiatives related to its iron ore sales. This includes partnerships with steelmakers, research providers and universities to find product and processing solutions that reduce carbon emission across the ore to steel value chain.

Gus Nathan is the Research Director of the national $215m Heavy Industry Low-carbon Transition Cooperative Research Centre. Following his leadership on an ARENA-funded program to develop solar thermal technology to decarbonize the Bayer alumina process in partnership with Alcoa, Hatch and CSIRO, and an innovative hydrogen production technology in methane pyrolysis within the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre.
