John Rankin

Adjunct Professor, Swinburne University of Technology 

John Rankin, BSc  PhD, University of Queensland, is an Adjunct Professor, Swinburne University of Technology and Honorary Fellow of CSIRO.

He worked initially for MINTEK in South Africa then lectured in extractive metallurgy and chemical engineering at the Universities of Stellenbosh (South Africa) and Waterloo (Canada).

He was Director of the G K Williams Cooperative Research Centre for Extractive Metallurgy at the University of Melbourne in the 1990s and was Chief Scientist of the CSIRO Division of Minerals, Melbourne before retiring.

He authored the books Minerals Metals and Sustainability (CRC Press, 2011) and Chemical Thermodynamics: Theory and Applications (CRC Press, 2020), and edited the 3rd edition of the ‘Mawby’ volumes published by the AusIMM. He has published over 140 papers and book chapters in the fields of pyrometallurgy and sustainability.
