James McClements

Co-founder and Managing Director, Resource Capital Funds

James co-founded Resource Capital Funds Management LLC (RCF) and as Managing Partner has led its strategic direction, growth, and expansion since its founding in 1998. He pioneered the mining-focused private equity space.

James has extensive Board experience serving on twelve public and numerous private RCF portfolio company boards. Currently, he serves on the board of directors of two RCF portfolio companies, Ausenco Pty Ltd. (a global engineering and construction firm), and Global Advanced Materials Pty Ltd. (the largest western producer of tantalum).

James has also been on the board of Mineral Resources Ltd. (MinRes) since 2015 and Non-Executive Chairman since 2022. MinRes is a leading diversified resources company, with extensive operations in lithium, iron ore, energy, and mining services. MinRes has become one of ASX’s best-performing companies since listing in 2006. 

Additionally, James is the former Acting Chair of the WA Museum Foundation and current board member which he has been a part of since 2012.

James was born in Perth and raised and educated in the Pilbara mining region of Western Australia. He completed an Honours degree in Economics from the University of Western Australia. He began his professional career with the BHP Group LTD, before joining Standard Chartered Bank in Perth and then N.M. Rothschild & Sons in Sydney and then Denver. He spent 11 years in the USA, and during this time co-founded RCF.
