Topic 3: Achieving a nature positive advantage

Anthony O'Grady

Senior Research Officer, CSIRO

Dr Anthony O’Grady (Tony) is a world leading natural capital scientist, thought leader and influential Australian advocate for a nature positive economy.

Working with industry, based out of Australia's national science agency, the CSIRO, Anthony is at the forefront of Australia’s efforts, and the global movement, to quantify natural riches in economic terms, and to look afresh at the value of the world’s forests, waterways and biodiversity.

Dr O'Grady has led globally ground breaking work to quantify the impacts of various industries on nature, including leading scientific work in partnership with BHP evaluating the impacts on over 6 million ha of Australian land. His passion to enable organisations to understand and respond to their impact on nature including climate, and exposure to risks, led him to become a founding scientist of Nature IQ, a CSIRO platform designed to support a nature positive transition in the public and private sectors.

Anthony currently sits on the natural capital advisory group to the World Economic forum. He speaks passionately and eloquently about a future economic transition driven by a sound understanding of environmental, social and financial performance.
