Today, AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin FAusIMM and members of AusIMM’s Policy and Advocacy team, alongside representatives from the NSW Minerals Council, met with senior executives from the University of Wollongong to discuss reported changes to the University’s mining programs.

AusIMM organised and facilitated this meeting in our role as the peak body for resources professionals, reflecting our concern for the future of minerals education both at the University and across the broader industry.

Based on these discussions, AusIMM understands and is confident that a positive outcome will be reached regarding the University of Wollongong’s mining programs. The University confirmed they will release further formal communications over the coming week.

The meeting today reiterates the important role AusIMM plays as a trusted voice within the resources sector, and the positive influence we bring to bear as the representative for a global professional community committed to fostering a vibrant and strong future industry.

We look forward to further productive engagement with the University and our industry peers.
