AusIMM New Professionals Network - Journal - 2023 World Gold Conference
In September of 2023, I had the incredibly unique opportunity of participating in the 10th World Gold Conference in Shenyang - the chosen city for China’s inaugural hosting of this global convening.
Co-representing the AusIMM alongside Mark Noppé – recently re-elected AusIMM Director, the conference showcased the latest advancements and understandings in various gold and platinum-group metals industry topics. A few of the thematic breakout sessions included:
- Gold Geology Forum; unveiling new mineral system theories and deep gold exploration case studies.
- Digital Gold Forum; exploring the realms of safety, monitoring, and computerised equipment.
- Gold Metallurgical Forum; comprehensive re-utilisation of resource inputs.
Advancements in the application of platinum-group metals and market contrast to gold. - Promoting the successful rehabilitation efforts of gold mines in China, sustainable practices like paste filling of old excavations, and novel cyanide detox processes.
It was an international and multi-lingual event, with simultaneous interpretation earpieces worn by the audiences. I learned about elusive PGM processing from South African metallurgists, the riveting adventures of Chinese consultants in an underground North Korean gold mine, and the stimulated character of Russian resource engineers.
