The International Geological Congress (IGC) is a nonprofit scientific and educational organisation whose meetings are held in collaboration with, and under sponsorship of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), which holds its General Assemblies in conjunction with Sessions of the IGC. The main purpose of the Congress is to encourage the advancement of fundamental and applied research in the Earth sciences world-wide.

The 37th International Geological Conference was held on the 25 – 31 August 2024 in Busan, Republic of Korea. Mr Renzo Ocampo (AusIMM Geoscience Committee member) attended this event. He said:  “Attending the 37th International Geological Congress in Busan, South Korea, was an incredible experience! I had the opportunity to connect with geoscientists and exhibitors from across the globe, exchanging ideas and discussing the future of our industry. One of the most impactful sessions I attended was on ‘International Perspectives on Earth Science Education,’ where we delved into the global issue of declining earth science student numbers and explored strategies to address it. The sessions on tectonics and economic geology, among many others, were also highly insightful and engaging.”
