Hunter Region Branch – Muswellbrook Coal site visit 2023

· 160 words, 1 min read

Muswellbrook Coal in conjunction with the AusIMM Hunter Branch, hosted 21 attendees as part of a recent mine tour, which also involved an informative discussion about the history and future of the operation.

Operations Manager, Rod Gallagher, began by giving an insight into the technical challenges encountered throughout the mine life, and explained some of the operational requirements when mining through historical underground workings.

Attendees then boarded a bus and were taken around the mine and observed the unique aspects of the operation. Although production has ceased, the mine is also investigating several opportunities which will potentially see the post-mining landform used for future renewable energy purposes.

In summary the AusIMM Hunter Branch, on behalf of its members and those who attended, would like to thank Muswellbrook Coal for showcasing their operation and the opportunity to visit and ask questions.

Also, thanks go to committee member Jay Jensen-Langford for organising the event and providing this follow-up record of that day.
