Notes from the Consultants Society Chair - November 2024

It is already November, and it has been an eventful year to date for the Consultants Society.

We held a strategy session earlier in the year, aligning with the AusIMM strategic imperatives and identifying key focus areas for our membership:

  1. Member engagement
  2. Reward and recognition
  3. Standards, codes and professional practice
  4. Courses, education and training with our signature Study Processes initiative
  5. Communication via our newsletter, on LinkedIn and webinars
  6. Active governance

From this point on, we have also identified specific activities to support our membership. We always feel like we could be doing more and would welcome your input. What can we do to support our consultants in non-traditional fields?

We held the Consultants Society Forum in Perth following the Mill Operators conference in October 2024. Given the rapidly changing environment in which Consultants and their valued Clients operate, it was opportune to engage with industry-leading experts on the theme ‘Consulting & Clients in the Future World—Navigating the Changing Landscape’.

Whilst this was many years in the making, notably since 2016, we had an informative day, continuing our engagement and supporting our members. We were fortunate to have amazing speakers, and we hope that you will be motivated to attend and be involved in the direction of the Consultants Society as we share our learnings over the next few months!

We continue to deliver for our community and are very pleased to continue the Study Processes course, which was completed for the second time this year. We are also excited to share the Study Processes Handbook, aiming to enhance the professional capability of our members, providing a basis to improve investor and community confidence, corporate governance, and the general reputation in the mineral resources sector.
