Karl Van Olden, the executive lead of operations for AMC Consultants, presented this year at the International Mining Geology Conference on behalf of the AusIMM Consultant Society.

His presentation, titled “Weaving the Threads Together,” highlighted the often-overlooked aspects of AusIMM that drive the benefits members receive from the Institute.

The presentation emphasised the importance of AusIMM societies, which consist of members with expertise in specific disciplines within the industry. These experts develop relevant events, products, and projects for professionals in the mining sector. The societies play a crucial role in generating value for members and the industry as a whole.

As the conference was focused on geology and how geology contributes to generating value from minerals deposits, Karl discussed its benefits for society members, minerals industry consultants, and others involved in developing mineral projects. The conference aimed to provide a transparent and reliable method for defining mineral projects, benefiting investors and stakeholders.

His presentation aimed to link several individual threads into a cohesive tapestry that supports investment in successful mining projects. This approach not only supports investment but also enhances the credibility and transparency of processes for all stakeholders interested in mining projects.

Attendees were encouraged to engage with the Consultants Society and other AusIMM societies. The importance of knowledge sharing and undertaking projects that benefit consultants, such as study processes and the publication of the Mineral Consultants Handbook, was highlighted. The evolution of the ESG component into an advisory council for the AusIMM was also mentioned.

The presentation concluded by inviting attendees to explore the available societies within the AusIMM. These societies offer opportunities for members to draw benefits and contribute to the industry. Those with a professional passion were encouraged to find their place within society and positively influence the industry.
