The 14th AusIMM Mill Operators’ Conference drew a record crowd in Brisbane last week, as 570 resources professionals gathered to discuss ‘getting back to basics’ in mineral processing.

Celebrating 40 years since it was first held in the mining town of Mt Isa, the conference was hosted from 29-31 August and drew nearly 200 international delegates from around the world.

During the three-day event, 55 global experts shared their knowledge in operating practices for mineral processing plants, with a focus on ensuring that professionals have a strong understanding of fundamentals.

AusIMM President Colin Moorhead said that the 60 industry exhibitors in attendance highlighted the success of the event not only for technical professionals but all stakeholders working across the sector.

‘The record Mill Operators Conference audience was a clear indication of the need within the industry for substantial technical conferences.

‘Furthermore, collaboration between technical practitioners, executives, academia and government during the conference showcased our co-operative and diverse sector,’ Mr Moorhead said.

AusIMM CEO Stephen Durkin regarded the strong participation of international delegates as a clear reflection of the Australian resources sector’s outstanding reputation on the world stage.

‘Australian resources professionals are some of the most respected in the world. Our industry is based on strong professional codes and standards, and our experts are widely recognised as the best in their field. It is this reputation that draws significant international interest to our conferences.

‘With further conferences scheduled for this year and next on a variety of topics, AusIMM will continue our work in equipping professionals with the knowledge, skills and support they need to excel.’
