AusIMM to form Council for Diversity and Inclusion

At AusIMM we are seeking to become a more contemporary and inclusive organisation.

We want to better represent all professionals that work in the resources sector. It is clear that diverse and inclusive organisations and sectors are more productive and ultimately more successful and highly respected.

Our Board and Management Team have therefore recently announced the appointment of a ‘Council for Diversity and Inclusion’ to shape this important agenda.

The role of the Council is to promote diversity, equality and inclusion in the mining and resources sector, by progressing initiatives to ensure the equality of opportunity for all members of the sector regardless of race, ethnicity, heritage, gender, age, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status.

The Council will review and approve the AusIMM Diversity and Inclusion strategy and provide oversight on action items and report on progress.

With the establishment of this new Council, much of the role and activities of the WIMnet National Committee will be transferred over to the new Council.  This transition of work will be determined in consultation with WIMnet National over the next few months. As WIMnet National Chair, I will join the Council for Diversity and Inclusion to shape the diversity agenda and ensure knowledge transfer and a conduit between prior WIMnet national activities.

With this change, WIMnet activities will continue to be coordinated at a local level through the existing state groups, which will continue to operate as currently, albeit with a new and improved reporting mechanism through the AusIMM Management Team. This will ensure groups can keep up-to-date with WIMnet activities across all regions and will also facilitate the sharing of best practice between the groups.

I particularly want to acknowledge all members of WIMnet for their work in support of diversity and inclusion, and thank them for their continued participation and involvement in our state-based WIMnet activities.

We look forward to sharing further details on the Council and its initiatives soon, with a launch to be held at the upcoming Achieve and Inspire Conference in Sydney on 18 May 2018.

Kate Hobbs

Chair, AusIMM WIMnet
