The AusIMM Mining Society Committee announces AusIMM Board Member Gavin Yeates as their Distinguished Lecture Series guest speaker for 2019.
As well as the opportunity to hear Gavin’s presentation, the South West WA Branch is fortunate to also have David Yeates speak on ‘Workforce 2025, how to thrive in an age of digital, automation and robotics and what does it all mean?’
Gavin is an established mining industry executive and leader in strategy, mining, geoscience and technology, with demonstrated capacity to deliver value and drive change across global organisations.
A 35 year veteran of BHP, Gavin has held a number of senior roles including Group Head of Resource and Business Optimisation, VP Mineral Resource Development and VP Mine Optimisation, until “retirement” in June 2015. In his final role with BHP he led the development of BHP’s Group Technology Strategy, a global approach to technology development and implementation across all functions and businesses.
Gavin’s career began in operations, technical leadership and projects before progressing to a corporate role involved in the independent review of some of the largest and most complex capital projects and M&A transactions as well as leading large scale technology development and implementation into operations.
Formerly a member of the JORC Committee, and a Director of AMIRA international Pty Ltd., Gavin is currently an independent Director of CRC Ore Ltd, and a Director of the AusIMM. He continues to be active as a strategic advisor to mining companies, suppliers and government institutions through his consulting business.
Gavin brings a deep understanding of the mining industry, and its professionals, along with a vision for the future to help define the opportunities that a technology enabled future mining industry presents.
David assists businesses to develop and transition to more contemporary and competitive ways of working in the 21st century. Using a unique blend of digital strategy, lean innovation and design thinking, David transforms organisations and develops leaders on how to respond to a rapidly-changing business landscape.
Dave’s work carefully balances forward-thinking advice and thought leadership with practical facilitation and project delivery experience.Workforce 2025 is a learning event for Mining and METS company leaders and executives to improve their position, gain confidence, direction and practical next steps about the future of work.
