New Chair for the AusIMM Geoscience Society Committee
As the new Chairman, Tony Wiggins MAusIMM is committed to enhancing the value proposition to members by facilitating the dissemination of recorded technical content and encouraging wider member engagement
Tony has recently joined the Portfolio Strategy and Development team with BHP in Adelaide. He has a background in geoscience and capital markets.
Previously working with a junior exploration company engaged in business development and precious metal exploration activities in the high Andes of Chile, he enjoys the technical challenges of exploration geoscience and engaging across capital markets and resources companies on matters relating to investment decision-making and growth.
A qualified geologist and Goldfields graduate trainee, he has worked in large scale underground mining operations in Australia and Western Australia, before moving to a business analysis and valuation role with North Limited.
Pursing interests in institutional asset management, Tony has held resources sector and portfolio construction responsibilities with leading financial institutions including JB Were Asset Management, Aviva Investors and EIM Capital Managers. More recently, with Portfoliodirect, he developed analytical research frameworks to guide institutional risk assessments of early-stage exploration and development companies.
Tony holds an honours degree in geology, a Masters of Minerals and Energy Economics from Macquarie University and a Masters of Applied Finance and Investment. A Member of the Australasian Institute of Mining (AusIMM) and a past recipient of the GB O’Malley Medal for a student paper on the geology of Broken Hill. He is a Fellow of the FINSIA, The Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
The Geoscience Society Committee of the AusIMM represents those professionals with a background or focus on geoscience. It is an important way for members to engage with colleagues and other professionals on technical and other industry matters.
