Join the Kalgoorlie Branch to hear from guest speaker Dr. Hyongdoo Tom Jang on the topic of “Overbreak and underbreak prediction for underground production blasting.”
Can we predict the overbreak and underbreak prior to the actual shoot?
Do we have any new methods to optimise our productions rather than rely on conventional geotechnical reports?
Mines are generating tons of data daily but how much are we able to utilise or analyse to turn this data to valuable knowledge and wisdom?
We hear a lot of Artificial Neuron Networks, Fuzzy Logic and Expert Systems. But how can we utilise these smart methods in the mining industry?
About the Speaker:
Dr Hyongdoo Tom Jang started his career as a blasting engineer in 1998 and had been through various field experiences in open quarry, underground mine, urban and mountainous tunnelling, downtown excavation, highway and local load constructions. In 2012, he joined Western Australian School of Mines (WASM), Curtin University to finish his PhD study on overbreak optimisation in underground production blasting. He is currently working as a lecturer in Mining Engineering at WASM, Curtin University, since 2015.
