The AusIMM Hunter Region Branch invites you to join them at the Singleton Diggers Club with guest speaker Kate Swain, Special Counsel, McCullough Robertson, providing her insights into the decision.
The Rocky Hill case is being hailed as a landmark judgement in climate litigation. Described as being in the “wrong place at the wrong time” the proposed coal mine development, located near Gloucester, was rejected by the NSW Land and Environment Court on climate change (and other) grounds.
Opponents of mining are describing the decision as “game changing” and are calling for the NSW government to codify the judgement in the planning approval process.
So what are the implications for the coal mining industry in the Hunter?
Kate will take us through the decision and offer some perspectives on what it all means. Highly topical and highly controversial, this event is set to be a sell-out.
Kate Swain is a senior member of the environment and planning team at McCullough Robertson with over 15 years’ experience across the breadth of environment and planning law.
She is recognised as a leading mining lawyer in NSW with a detailed understanding of the Mining Act and associated policies.
Kate also has hands on experience working in various approval roles at mine sites across the Hunter.
