This event is brought to you by the AusIMM Adelaide Branch, The AusIMM Geoscience Society, The Society of Economic Geologists, our 2019 Branch Partners of Bureau Veritas & OZ Minerals, and is worth 1 PD hour.

Please come and join Professor Ross Large AO, Professor of Economic Geology – The University of Tasmania, who will deliver a presentation titled “Relationship between Oxygenation and Ore Deposit Cycles through Earth History”.

Distinguished Professor Ross Large is internationally renowned in ore deposit geology. His research has focused on understanding how mineral deposits form and using this knowledge to help industry find deposits of ore like gold. But he has now turned his geological skills to answering the most fundamental question of all – what controlled the evolution of life?

Professor Ross Large was the foundation Director of CODES an ARC Centre of Excellence in Ore Deposits at UTAS. He has published over 100 papers on the genesis of mineral deposits and is recognised as an international leader in the field of Economic Geology. He has won many awards for his research achievements, including the Society of Economic Geology Silver Medal, and Australian Academy of Science Haddon King Medal for research excellence relevant to the minerals industry. His current research interest is determining the chemistry of past oceans and how this relates to marine evolution and marine ore deposits.

Prior to Ross’s presentation, we will hear a short presentation from George Symonds, a 2019 AusIMM / Playford Trust Minerals Industry Honours Scholarship recipient and student at the University of Adelaide, on his honours thesis and talk titled ‘IOCG Hunting in the Northern Gawler Craton’.

Please join us for this highly anticipated distinguished lecture series.
