The New Zealand Branch committee is pleased to advise that the Reefton Explorers Forum programme has been updated.
The Forum Programme offers an exciting range of presentations and discussions on the current understanding of the Reefton Goldfield mineralisation and regional geology, mine scale advances in geology and exploration, exploration methods and associated challenges.
The forum and associated activities will be based in and around the Reefton township. Reefton is 250km/3 hour drive from Christchurch and 120km/1.5 hour drive from Hokitika.

Registrations are essential
This is being organised and hosted by John Taylor and will offer options for good (Globe Progress mine; Snowy River and other stops) and inclement weather (Stay in van field stops, Oceanagold's core shed and the School of Mines). Numbers are limited to ~40 plus drivers. One minivan is set aside for 10 students, leaving ~ 30 seats.
Be in quick to avoid disappointment.
For practical and H&S reasons, independent travel arrangements are not permitted. Those attending are to bring suitable outdoor footwear, warm clothing and wet weather gear.
More information regarding the field trip will be circulated to attendees approximately two weeks before the day.
Transportation options for getting to/from Reefton are covered below.
Venue: Reefton Cinema, Sheil Street
The Forum Programme is now available. As you will see, there are 17 presenters covering a fantastic range of subjects covering the “big picture” models down to obtaining land access.
The aim during the forum will be to organise the information and feedback using a Mineral Systems approach.
A report covering the outcomes will be circulated to members after the forum.
Venue: This will be held at Dawsons Hotel. It will be a three-course buffet and include drinks.
These are exceptional value. More information will be provided in the lead up to the courses:
SC1: On-line permit application process. NZP&M. (Duration 3 hours).
SC2: An introduction to geological modelling and resource estimation using Leapfrog Geo/Edge.
Presented by Seequent and RSC Mining and Mineral Exploration.
Course participants will be required to bring a laptop with suitable graphics capability (Duration 1.5 days).
For the field trip, minivan transportation for up to 30 delegates can be provided leaving from Christchurch airport early afternoon Saturday 31 August. This transportation will return to Christchurch airport on Tuesday 3rd September in the morning.
For those wishing to stay on and attend Short Courses, or attend the Forum only, transportation to and from Reefton will be your responsibility.
East West Coaches (0800 142622) runs a daily shuttle from Christchurch to Reefton and return, except on Saturdays.
