Corinne Unger is AusIMM’s representative on the ISO TC 82 (Mining) Subcommittee 7 (Mine Closure and Reclamation Management) on three Working Groups, WG1 Vocabulary, WG2 MC&RM planning, and WG3 Abandoned/Legacy Mine Management (and is also Convenor and International Project Lead for this Working Group)

This presentation will provide an update on the family of standards under development. There are three standards in progress, each at different stages. Corinne has been providing regular updates via the AusIMM online Bulletin.

Presenter

Corinne Unger’s career spans more than 30 years, starting in soil conservation before progressing to mine rehabilitation, closure and research. She started at ERA’s Ranger Mine coordinating rehabilitation and research, NT then moved to central Queensland and developed a rehabilitation project for Mount Morgan (historic) mine when employed by the DME. Next, based in Brisbane as a self-employed consultant, Corinne was engaged by industry, government and NGOs in mine rehabilitation and closure related projects. She also won a Churchill Fellowship, to study ‘leading practice abandoned mine rehabilitation and post-mining land use’ in Europe, UK and Canada (2009). Once completed, Corinne joined the Centre for Mined Land Rehabilitation at the SMI, part-time, to develop a jurisdictional maturity model for managing abandoned mines. Corinne was inaugural chair of the then Community and Environment Society of AusIMM. In 2017 Corinne commenced her PhD at The University of Queensland’s Business School and was a recipient of an AusIMM Excellence Award in 2018.
