The Gympie Province is a unique tectono-
stratigraphic unit which does not fit into the overall
palaeogeographic pattern of the New England Fold Belt
(NEFB), and part of it has been proposed as an exotic
terrane more closely linked to New Zealand. From E to
W the Gympie Province comprises 6 distinct units which
can be evaluated as suspect or exotic terranes.
