Strength and Stiffness Parameters for Tunnels in Weak Sedimentary Rocks - A Case Study of the East Coast Bays Formation in Auckland, New Zealand
This paper describes laboratory and in situ tests and determines a set of parameters for stiffness and strength properties for a weak sedimentary rock mass, the East Coast Bays Formation of Auckland. The parameters derived are discussed in relation to peak strength and in respect of deformation limits associated with sequential excavate and support (SEM) or conventional tunnelling.
