Preliminary Proposal for Mining of the Rapahoe Block - Greymouth Coalfield
The Greymouth Coal field is situated on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island and has been mined for coal for more than 120 years. The area covered in this paper is within the Rapahoe Sector of this field and contains >200 million tonnes of low ash, low sulphur, bituminous rank coal. Paper No 6, presented to the 19th Annual Conference of the New Zealand Branch of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy in Christchurch in August 1985 by R G Bowman, explained 'A Geologist's View' of the 'Economic Potential of the Greymouth Coalfield', and describes previous geological assessments of the Rapahoe Sector.
