Geology and Mining of the Sundance Gold Mine, Batchelor, Northern Territory
The Sundance gold mine, located 2.5 km east of the town of
Batchelor in the Northern Territiory, has produced over 5300 oz
of gold since it was discovered in 1978. Sundance is unique in
the Pine Creek Inlier in that the ore is hosted in palaeo-karst
detritus and crystalline magnesite of the Early Proterozoic
Coomalie Dolomite. This paper presents a summary of the geology of the mine, and
describes the methods used during the two periods of mining.
