The Last One in 251: Mass Blasting at Selwyn Mine
The Selwyn gold-copper operation is wholly owned and operated
by the Arimco mining group. The mine is located 150 kilometres
south-east of Mount Isa. The primary extraction method for the
gold-copper 251 orebody is by sub level open stoping. Secondary
extraction is from the mass blasting of the remaining crown and
rib pillars. The final mass blast of the 251 orebody occurred in
December 1993. This paper details the design and execution of
that firing.
