Diversification - The West African Experience
Australians have always been great travellers but, traditionally
Australian companies have been very conservative in contrast to
more daring individual Australians. During the 1960s, '1970s and
1980s, the Australian companies spent much of their time
exploring in Australia. It was only some of the major companies
like CRA and BHP that had explored in places like Bougainville
and Chile. However, during the mid-1980s some of the smaller
companies started looking beyond their shore towards other
opportunities in other countries. Why did they do this? Were they
pushed or did they jump? And where did they go?
