Blasting in an Urban Environment
Blasting in mines in an urban environment can be conducted safely and
within regulatory vibration limits by careful attention to detail and the
application of correct techniques. Factors affecting blast vibration are
described using surface and underground mining examples. An
understanding of these factors provides an essential base for effective
planning and operational control. Techniques are described for assessing
and predicting vibration levels and the presentation of data for planning
purposes such as environmental impact statements for new projects and
the protection of buffer zones around existing operations.
