Implementing and Managing New Technologies in Mining

A very wide range of technologies are utilised in the mining and processing of ores and a great deal of effort is expended in the development of new technologies' to improve mining performance and economics. Traditionally, technology and people have been treated as separate aspects of an operation, when in fact they are inextricably linked. The successful implementation of new technologies is entirely dependent upon the actions, enthusiasm and skills of people, both as individuals and working in groups._x000D_
This paper discusses the role of technology in mining and how new technologies are implemented by the industry. The paper argues that existing technologies have not been fully or adequately utilised and that effort should be re-focussed on the implementation of technologies that have been taken for granted for many years. The need for greater emphasis to be placed on the management of the human-technology interface is discussed.
