Relationships Between New Zealand, Australian and New Caledonian Mineralised Terranes: A Regional Geological Framework
New Zealand can be regarded as a rifted part of
mineral-prospective eastern Australia. Geologically credible
comparisons between selected trans-Tasman and SW Pacific geological provinces
and units, especially those that contain significant mineralisation in
Australia, can help provide a
useful exploration framework for New Zealand. As part of a six-year
Mineral Wealth of NZ and its EEZ (MWE) research programme, we have targeted
selected geological units in eastern Australia for comparison and contrast with their
potential New
Zealand counterparts. In future years, the
programme will focus on geological units in New Caledonia.
