Evaluation of Heavy Medium Cyclone Performance at the Hamersley Iron Mount Tom Price Concentrator
The Mount Tom Price Concentrator, which contains a heavy medium cyclone plant for beneficiation of the -6+0.5mm fraction of low grade iron ore, is described. Testwork was carried out on an opportune basis over a period exceeding twelve months, to evaluate the separation performance of the heavy medium cyclones. Plastic density tracers were used and ore samples were taken and analysed. The effect of operating medium specific gravity (S.G.) on the separation parameters, the iron grade of the sinks product, and the mass and iron recoveries were investigated._x000D_
Also examined were the differences in perform- ance between particles of different size. The implications of the findings for plant oper- ation are discussed.
