Excavation Engineering - The Integration of Excavation Design, Blast Design and Reinforcement Design
Excavation engineering involves three key design processes; excavation
design, blast design and reinforcement design. An excavation engineering
methodology is proposed in an attempt to promote integration and
simultaneous consideration of these three design processes. This
methodology requires research and development of, inter alia, a universal
rock mass classification system and a universal data display system.
Simple examples are used to explain and illustrate the concepts central to
these components in the three design processes.
