It is with great pleasure that I accepted the invitation to make a closing address to this Congress particularly as it is here in Brisbane._x000D_
The main duty of the International Mine Ventilation Congress Committee and in particular the chairman is to ensure that these conferences are held every four to five years in suitable locations. My main role over the last four years has been to promote holding this Congress in Australia and it was a great relief when the Queensland team and the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy accepted the challenge in November 1986.
