Conference Proceedings
Green Processing 2002 HC
The Green Processing proceedings volume has taken as its focus a major
challenge facing the world today - the pertinent issue of sustainable
development - the ability to meet the needs of the present without jeopardizing
the needs of future generations'. This volume centres on the increasing interest
in environmental aspects of mineral resource processing and its implications for
the minerals industry, examining opportunities for making large reductions in
environmental impacts in the provision of the material needs of society through
the adoption of eco-efficiency principles, novel technologies and industrial
ecology concepts while at the same time achieving positive social outcomes.
The papers in the volume present an overview of the present understanding of
the implications of sustainable development to mineral resource processing and
indicate possible pathways forward. They also provide best practice' examples
of how some companies are addressing sustainability issues and provide updates
on research areas that may provide technological breakthroughs with
sustainability benefits.
