The process of design, measurement and review is essential if blasting is
to continuously improve to meet the increasing productivity goals of most
mining operations. To achieve continual improvements, many operators
are turning to contractors to provide the necessary technology. Under this
arrangement, the contractor becomes the supplier of a service rather than
products and assumes some of the risks associated with blasting by
guaranteeing the end result. If contractors are to obtain significant
productivity improvements they must continuously improve every aspect
of their business.
