Simulating Block Cave Secondary Breakage - An Application of Information and Operations Management Tools in Mass Mining Systems

The re-engineering of manufacturing production systems has demonstrated the benefits from using production information for optimising processes. This paper explores the techniques and issues in the acquisition and analysis of mine production data for tactical decision making in production control. The use of information and operations management tools is presented in the context of block caving studies, with particular focus on the relationship between secondary breaking and LHD production performance.
