The Application of Finite Strain Consolidation Theory to the Design of Tailings Disposal Systems
The assumptions made in conventional (Terzaghi) consolidation theory are not met in a tailings deposit. Finite or large strain consolidation theory must be employed. The paper describes such a consolidation model and its application to the design of tailings impoundments, water management systems, and long term rehabilitation.
