Exploration and resource growth at the Buriticá Gold Project, Colombia
The Buritic Gold Project, owned by Continental Gold Inc. (TSX:CNL.TO; OTCQX:CGOOF), is located in the middle Cauca belt of Colombia, South America (Figure 1). Mineralization is porphyry-related and has been classified as intermediate sulphidation (Lesage et al, 2013) or carbonate base metal gold vein/breccia, with high grades (100-5000 Au g/t and 1000-10 000g/t Ag) of precious metals having a vertical continuity over one kilometre. Significant gold resources occur in similar porphyry-related deposits in the circum-Pacific magmatic arc and include Peasquito, Mexico (>25 Moz), Porgera, PNG (>25 Moz) and Kelian, Indonesia (7 Moz). The Buritic project comprises Yaragu and Veta Sur with approximately 11 Moz gold in total resources.Gold was mined in the Buritic area before the arrival of Spanish colonialists and was continued by the Spanish, principally from placer and colluvial deposits. High grade gold-silver veins were also worked in shallow underground artisanal operations on the 1980s and such mining continues to the present day. CNL supports locals who process 3000 tonnes per day while the mine is under construction. Full commercial production is scheduled for early 2020 anticipating around 250 000 to 300 000 gold ounces per year. CITATION: Taylor, I, Castenada, M, Vigar, A and Prendergast, K, 2019.
