Space resources – separating the hype from reality (but it is closer than you think)

Space resources are increasingly mentioned in news articles as the next big thing and some of the stories are indeed eye-catching with headlines such as Space Gold Mines, Trillionaires, and More Resources and More Wealth Than ALL Earth Production Combined. Is such hype justified and is there a realistic business case to be made for the development of space resources? The answer to the first question is a resounding NO but the answer to the second question is a perhaps surprising, Yes.
