Reductive Leaching of Manganese Containing Material with Pyrite in a Mild Sulphuric Acid Medium
Laboratory-scale studies aimed at developing a process for solubilising manganese values from a low grade pyrolusite containing material using low grade pyrite, both available in India, are described. Leaching 21 parts by mole of pyrolusite with 6 and 26 parts by mole of pyrite and sulphuric acid respectively results in good manganese dissolution (98 per cent) at 100C within one hour. The probable kinetics of the leaching process has also been given.
