Hilton - The All Electric Mine
Hilton Mine was first discovered in 1941. After a checkered history, plans were drawn up in 1983 to escalate development intensity to supplement Isa Mine's depleting lead-zinc reserves into the 1990's. The decision was made to make Hilton All Electric Mine' with 1000 V distribution._x000D_
Production of lead, zinc and silver commenced in June 1981 from the initial trial mining cut and fill block. One hundred thousand tonnes of sill development was completed by February 1988. The first sub level open stope (SLOS) block is scheduled for production in early 1989. The mine is targeted for 2.5 million tonnes/yr by 1996._x000D_
Various challenges have been met installing a 1000 V distribution, training mining and maintenance personnel on highly technical rigs, equipment selection and specifications, service contracts and equipment operation.
