Zero Liquid Discharge in Coal Mining Operations

The coal mining industry is now faced with new regulatory requirements that limit the discharge of chlorides into receiving streams. To meet these new regulatory standards for treated mine water, a zero liquid waste approach was developed using advanced treatment technologies. The approach described in this paper will generate clean water for reuse in various energy endeavours or discharge to the environment, with no substantial liquid or solid waste from the treatment process leaving the site.CITATION:Dal-Corobbo, A and Zick, R, 2013. Zero liquid discharge in coal mining operations, in Proceedings Water in Mining 2013 , pp 221-226 (The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy: Melbourne).
