South West WA Branch/Geoscience Society - Digital Tech Talk: Seismic Tomography Journey to the Centre of the Earth

You have access to this product
Presented by Robert Watchorn. Participants will gain a broader, but more detailed, insight into the evolution of the Earth and its resources. This will be obtained by examining Africa from the surface, using Landsat, through to the core mantle boundary at 2,900 km depth using seismic tomographic plans and sections.

Detailed plan and section structural geology of Africa will be examined to also gain insight into the geochronology, formation and location of all types of mineral deposits. The images used are far more detailed than those currently published by the geoscience industry. Therefore, the information on structure, and most importantly mineralisation, is new and far more interpretable and coherent.

The correlation of mineralisation is obtained by superimposing the mineral locations on the Landsat and Seismic tomographic plans and sections enabling preliminary exploration targeting. The resource industry has come up against a wall in finding new mineral fields and giant deposits. This new ability to obtain much more detailed deposit formation and location concepts will generate new exploration targets enabling an increase in our discovery rate.
